De KRO-NCRV documentaire The Mind Game heeft woensdagavond op het Movies That Matter festival de Education Award gewonnen. Uit het juryrapport: “The winning film is an incredibly impressive documentary. A must-see for every young person and adult. It teaches you to consider people who have fled. There are many people, including many children, on the run.” De prijs is dit jaar voor het eerst uitgereikt door Movies That Matter.
Internationaal succes
The Mind Game heeft al meerdere prijzen gekregen, zoals de Mediterranean Youth Prize op Primed 2023 in Frankrijk, Best International Feature Documentary Award op het documentairefestival van Mexico, de Youth Jury Prize op het Human Rights Film Festival Berlin 2023 en de Bring The Change Award Aldini Valerian en Bring The Change Award Arca di Noè (Italie).
Na hun prijswinnende documentaire Shadow Game (2021) waren regisseurs Els van Driel en Eefje Blankevoort nog niet uitverteld over de gevaren waarmee jonge oorlogsvluchtelingen in Europa te maken krijgen. In The Mind Game (2023) ligt de focus op de psychologische druk waaraan deze jongeren tijdens en na hun tocht blootstaan.
